And a LOT of time and money and effort goes into this. ![]() You want more diversity in critical role, you need to accept that's going to come through spin off content, not the main show, and you need to support that content.Īnd remember, this is the cast's business. I enjoyed it, but it seemed to get a fairly negative response from what I saw. Take EXU, which seems to have moved in this direction. And from what I can see they get less attention and often less positive response. And have one shots and mini series with the cast switched up. It's a little like going to someone's home game and telling them they need to ditch a couple of their friends to bring in some diversity to their game. You remove a couple of them to bring in new people to give greater diversity and it changes the dynamic and the show. The whole cast dynamic is central to what it is. They've always been very clear they're sharing their game with us, not producing a game for us, as such. There's not really any room to add diversity, without removing current players. I think with Critical Role you have to remember this was an existing home game amongst a group of friends which got transplanted on to screens for people to watch. Now full disclosure, I'm not a minority, so I might not see the relevance in having representation, but I personally think that the fact that the not just the community but also the cast are so accepting of all kinds of viewpoints is enough. What I'm saying is that if there is a brand new cast of ethnic and gender diversity playing on a different day, is that still Critical Role? Is Critical Role just a brand that they can slap on anything, or is it the game that a group of close friends and family came to play and share it with anyone who wants to spectate. Now I am not saying that representation is a bad thing, quite the opposite. Thinking on it, I don't think that it's a good idea to make critical role more diverse. I was scrolling through TikTok a bit and came across an old video by jacob_oland talking a bit about how people are asking for more representation in critical role, and how they want people of different ethnic and gender groups to come on as full time cast members. ![]() If you want to filter the posts down to one flair, click on one of these:Įpisode ▪ Live Discussion ▪ State of the Sub "State of the Sub" posts & discussions Flairsīecause all the posts are tagged with flairs, you can easily find content you're interested in.
